2006-08-05 Stream Planting and Cubs Sleepover

Even though the weather wasn't the best, Te Awaroa Kotutku Scout Group had a good turn out of Cubs and Scouts for our planting afternoon with Wadcoss at Tui Glen for the Twin Streams Project on Saturday 5th August.

We started at 2 o'clock with an explanation from Gilbert, from Wadcoss, about what we were going to do. Then Simon showed us all how to dig the right sized hole for the plants and the best way to get them out of their bags and firmly bedded in the ground.

After that the Cubs ansd Scouts started planting and with a little bit of help and guidance from parents and the guys from Techscape, plus Cole's Dad keeping busy collecting all the plastic plant bags so we didn't leave any litter,we were able to get 400 plants done in just over an hour.

Then it was time for the Cubs to clean up and have a few games in the den ready for the Cubs sleepover.

The weather put a stop to our plans of wide games outside, so after a dinner of sausages and chips, followed by jelly and icecream, everyone snuggled down to watch a DVD in the den.

Then is was bed time, and thanks to the electric heaters we all had a warm night's sleep.

Breakfast was cereal, peaches and toast, and then everyone packed up their gear ready to be picked up to go home.

I would like thank all the parents who helped out with the planting, the food preparation, and those who volunteered to stay the night. You helped make a really enjoyable weekend.

You can all be very proud of your cubs who worked really well and also behaved really nicely for the whole weekend.

Thanks
David (Akela)
